Crochet Pattern Information

Materials needed to crochet the House Christmas Ornament

  • DK yarn. I used Rico Ricorumi DK (Colour A & B) and Rico Ricorumi Lamé DK (Colour C) in the following colours. Amounts are in brackets. Please note: If preferred, you can use the same yarn (e.g. Ricorumi DK) for all three yarn colours. Rico Ricorumi Lamé DK is not mandatory for this project.
    • A – Berry (12 grams = 28 m/ 31 yds)
    • B – Blue (7 grams = 16.3 m / 17.8 yds)
    • C – Gold (1 grams = 5 m/ 5.5 yds)
  • Crochet hook size 2.5 mm / C in US
  • Stuffing
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Pins (optional)

House Christmas Ornament Size

The House Christmas Ornament size once assembled is 12.5cm/4.9″ high by 11cm/4.3″ wide. Please note the size of your make will vary depending on your hook size, the yarn you use, and your tension/gauge.

Gauge

Gauge is not required for this pattern, however for reference my gauge was:

7 sc stitches on 2.5 cm / 1 “

7 rows on 2.5 cm / 1 “

Crochet Pattern Abbreviations

This crochet pattern is written in US terms.

R# – Row/round number

st – Stitch

mc – Magic circle

ch – Chain

sl st – Slip stitch

sc – Single crochet

sk – Skip

[…] x … – Repeat the sequence of stitches in brackets x-times

(…) – Total number of stitches at the end of each row/round

Top Tips & Additional Information

  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
  • Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each row to keep track of the number of stitches.
  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
  • Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

R1: Starting in 2nd ch 6 sc across, ch 1, turn (6)

Cut yarn leaving a longer yarn tail for sewing and fasten off.

Window

Using Colour B Yarn (Blue).

R2 – 3: 4 sc, ch 1, turn (4) – 2 rows

R4: 4 sc (4)

Cut yarn leaving a longer yarn tail for sewing and fasten off.

Sewing

Sew door and window to one of the houses as shown in the image below. The house you choose will be the one that sits at the front of the ornament.

House Ornament Assembly

Hold the two Houses together so the sides of both pieces are aligned. Ensure the house with the door and window is at the front.

Now we’re going to crochet around the sides of both Houses to join them together. St count doesn’t matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram in the image below if needed.

Insert crochet hook into the top left corner stitch of both Houses (see image below) and attach Colour C Yarn (Gold). We will now crochet along the sides of both pieces to join them together.

sc around sides of Houses to join them together. 3 sc in each corner st (see diagram). Stuff piece when you’ve reached half way, and continue to stuff as you crochet.

*When you reach the st just before the tip of the house roof (see end point of assembly diagram), 1 sc in top house st, ch 20, sc in same st in top of the house, sl st to 1st sc where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).

Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.

Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing.

Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.

Weave any remaining yarn tails into the House to hide.
