Additional Crochet Pattern Notes & Top Tips
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
- Hook size: For making the witch’s head, arms, hair and hat, use a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
- Eyes: In this pattern you have the choice of using safety eyes or embroidered eyes. Instructions are included for both. Please note that using safety eyes is a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
- Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
- Increases & Decreases: When increases (inc) and decreases (dec) are referred to in this pattern, ensure you use the same stitch for the increase/decrease as used in that particular round. For example, if the round uses double crochet, you will need to do a double crochet increase or decrease as stated.
- Bobble stitch: When you reach the witch’s head, there is a bobble stitch required. If you are unfamiliar with the Bobble stitch, I recommend downloading the free PDF crochet pattern as a photo tutorial on this stitch is included. Just head to the form at the top of this page to download a copy of the free PDF crochet pattern.
- Copyright notice: In no way can you replicate, copy or sell this crochet pattern. You however can sell items you make using this pattern on a small scale giving credit to the pattern designer. For more information please read the copyright notice at the bottom of the pattern on this page.

Assembly Instructions for Willow the Witch
Step 1: Sew Hair to Head
- Place hair on the head:
- Centre the fringe (short hair strands) with the nose.
- The hairline at the front should sit between R5 & R6 of the head.
- The hairline at the back should sit between R11 & R12 of the head.
- The short hair strands, when straightened out should sit between R10 & R11 of the head.
- First sew around the hairline (the section above the hair strands).
- Pin hair strands in place, with:
- No pins in fringe (short hair strands)
- First two long hair strands either side of the fringe should be pinned 3 sc down from the hairline.
- Next 3 long hair strands should be pinned 4 sc down from the hairline.
- All remaining long hair strands should be pinned 5 sc down from the hairline.
- Sew each hair strand in place where the pins have been placed, removing each pin as you go and skipping the fringe (short hair strands should not be sewn in place.
Step 2: Sew Witch Head to Blanket
Sew the bottom of the head (R19) to R1 of the blanket.
Step 3: Attach Arms to Witch Head & Blanket
- Pin arms to the bottom of R3 the head:
- 3 sts between the arms at the front
- 3 sts between the arms at the back
- 6 sts for each arm
- Sew in FLO sc of arm to R3 of the head
- Sew in BLO sc of arm to R1 of the blanket
Step 4: Stuff Witch Hat & Sew to Head
- Weave yarn tail under the brim of the hat to a BLO st of R24 (this will be visible).
- Lightly stuff the hat.
- Pin hat in place on hair:
- The hat will sit between R7 & R8 of the hair
- Attach the hat to the hair:
- First sew a few sporadic stitches attaching R24 back loops to between R7 & R8 of the hair. Do not worry about counting your stitches here. You just want to pin the hat in place with these stitches.
- Lastly, finishing sewing by weaving through each stitch between R23 & 24 of the hat joining to the hair (between R7 & R8 of the hair).
Eye Embroidery (If Applicable)
Using black embroidery thread, embroider two eyes onto your witch head. The image here shows you the pin placement I used to embroider my witch eyes.
