Gwin the Ghost Decoration
This easy crochet ghost pattern is free and quick to make. It took me less than a day to design, which means you can most likely crochet it within a couple of hours. But remember, it’s not about speed… unless you’re last-minute crocheting for Halloween, of course! 😉
This is a beginner-friendly Halloween crochet pattern, however it will help to have some crochet experience and be comfortable with basic crochet stitches (single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet), crocheting back and forth in rows, as well as crocheting in the round.
Gwin the Ghost Decoration was made with Halloween in mind, but isn’t meant to give the little ones too much of a scare. With his rosy pink cheeks and cute little smile, Gwin keeps a watchful eye over anyone he loves during the spooky season.
If you do decide to crochet Gwin the Ghost Decoration, I would love to see your makes! You can share them with me on social media by posting a photo and tagging me @cillacrochets and by using the hashtag #CillaCrochets. I can’t wait to see your Gwin!
Without further ado, let’s get to the pattern!
Happy crocheting!

Crochet Top Tips & Additional Pattern Information
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
- Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each row to keep track of the number of stitches.
- Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.

Sew cheeks and eyes to one of the ghosts as shown in the image below. The ghost you choose will be the one that sits at the front of the decoration.
Gwin the Ghost Decoration Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Crochet ghost together and stuff
Hold the two ghosts together so the sides of both pieces are aligned. Ensure the ghost with the cheeks and eyes is at the front.
Now we’re going to crochet around the sides of both ghosts to join them together. St count doesn’t matter here, however you can see the st counts in the diagram below.
Insert crochet hook into the top left corner stitch of both ghosts (see image below) and attach Colour A Yarn (White). We will now crochet along the sides of both pieces to join them together.
sc around sides of Ghosts to join them together. 2 sc in each corner st (see diagram). Stuff piece when you’ve reached half way, and continue to stuff as you crochet.
*When you reach the middle st at the top of the Ghost (see assembly diagram), 1 sc in this st, ch 20, sc in same st, continue to sc until you reach where you started and sl st to your very first sc.
Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.
Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing.
Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.
Weave any remaining yarn tails into the Ghost to hide. See Ghost sewn together in the image below.
Step 2: Embroider mouth and eyes (optional)
Using black embroidery thread, embroider a mouth in the middle of the ghost cheeks. Using white embroidery thread, embroider a little white spec into each eye.
