    • C – Gold (1 grams = 5 m/ 5.5 yds)

Top Tips & Additional Information

  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
  • Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
  • Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

Let’s Start Crocheting the Present Decoration

Square Gift (Make 2)

Using Colour A Yarn (Berry).

This piece is worked flat by crocheting back and forth in rows.

Please note: Turning chs are not counted in the total stitch count.

Start: Ch 13

R1: Start in 2nd ch from hook, 12 sc, ch 1, turn (12)

R2 – 11: 12 sc, ch 1, turn (12) – 10 rows

R12: 12 sc (12)

Cut yarn and fasten off. Repeat steps to make a second Square Gift.

Now we’ll add the ribbons.

Ribbon 1 (Make 2)

Attach Colour B Yarn (Blue) to 6th ch st of Square Gift as shown in image below.

Please note: Turning chs are not counted in the total stitch count.

R1: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2)

R2 – 12: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2) – 11 rows

Line up the edge of Ribbon 1 with the other side of the Square Gift (the opposite edge to where you attached the Colour B Yarn).

Now we’ll attach the Ribbon to the other side of the Gift. Count 5 sts along the Square Gift edge and insert hook into both Square Gift st and Ribbon 1 st.

R13: 2 sl st (crochet these loosely)

Cut yarn and fasten off.

Repeat steps for 2nd Square Gift. Once complete, you’ll have two separate pieces that look like the square shown in the image below.

Ribbon 2 (Make 2)

Attach Colour B Yarn (Blue) to approximately the 6th Row of Square Gift as shown in image below.

Please note: Turning chs are not counted in the total stitch count.

R1: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2)

R2 – 12: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2) – 11 rows

Line up the edge of Ribbon 2 with the other side of the Square Gift (the opposite edge to where you started Ribbon 2).

Count 5 rows along the Square Gift edge and insert hook into both Square Gift st and Ribbon 1 st.

R13: 2 sl st (crochet these loosely)

Cut yarn and fasten off. Repeat steps for second Square Gift.

Sew Colour B (Blue) Yarn tails in by attaching the Ribbons to the Gifts. Sew in remaining yarn tails.

See completed flat Square Gifts with Ribbons in image below.

Christmas Gift Assembly Instructions

Line up Gifts with the right sides facing outwards (e.g. Ribbons should be on the outside).

Now we’re going to crochet around all four sides of the Gift Squares to join both pieces together. St count doesn’t matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram in the image below.

Insert crochet hook into side st of both gifts at the top (see image below) and attach Colour C Yarn (Gold).

sc around sides of gifts to join them together. 3 sc in each corner st. Start stuffing when you’ve crocheted half way across and continue to stuff as you crochet along the sides.

*When you reach the st just before the final ribbon (see end point of assembly diagram), 1 sc in ribbon, ch 20, sc in next st of ribbon, sl st to 1st st where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).

Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.

Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing.

Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure, then weave into gift to hide.

Cut some extra Colour C Yarn (Gold) and weave through middle st of Ribbon 2 as shown in the image below. Tie a bow and double knot to secure.

Congratulations, you’ve finished!
