This Bauble Christmas Ornament free crochet pattern works up very quickly and looks great on any Christmas tree!

The seventh of twelve crochet patterns to be released as part of the Crochet Crew’s Countdown to Christmas is here! You can stay in the loop with all twelve Christmas ornament crochet patterns by following along with the fun here.

This is another one of my favourite out of the twelve Christmas ornaments, yet it’s probably one of the most simple patterns. The only challenge is that it combines techniques. With the majority of the bauble being crocheted in continuous rounds, and a little bit being crocheted back and forth in rows. All is explained super clearly throughout the pattern however, so no need to be intimidated by the mixed approach.

If you do end up crocheting this Bauble Christmas decoration, I’d love to see photos of your creations! You can share your creations with me by posting a photo to social media, using the hashtag #ChristmasWithCillaCrochets, and by tagging me @cillacrochets.

I’m also here to help if you have any questions at all while crocheting. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via Facebook, Instagram, or by email. I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Crochet Pattern Information

Materials needed to crochet the Bauble Christmas Ornament

  • DK yarn. I used Rico Ricorumi DK (Colour A & B) and Rico Ricorumi Lamé DK (Colour C) in the following colours. Amounts are in brackets. Please note: If preferred, you can use the same yarn (e.g. Ricorumi DK) for all three yarn colours. Rico Ricorumi Lamé DK is not mandatory for this project.

Top Tips & Additional Information

  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
  • Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
  • Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

Let’s Start Crocheting the Bauble Decoration

Bauble (Make 2)

Using Colour A Yarn (Blue).

R1: mc with 6 sc (6)

R2: [inc] x 6 (12)

R3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)

R4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24)

R5: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30)

R6: [4 sc, inc] x 6 (36)

R7: [5 sc, inc] x 6 (42)

R8: [6 sc, inc] x 6, sl st to 1st st in round to join (48) – sl st is not counted in total st count

Cut yarn and fasten off.

Insert hook into the sc next to where you fastened off (see image below) and attach Colour B Yarn (White).

The next section is worked back and forth in rows. Turning chains are not counted in the total st count.

R9: 3 sc, ch 1, turn (3)

R10: 3 sc, ch 1, turn (3)

R11: 3 sc, ch 1, turn (3)

R12: 3 sc (3)

Cut yarn and fasten off.

Weave in all yarn tails.

Follow all steps above to crochet a second Bauble.

Bauble Embroidery (Optional)

Using Yarn Colour B (White) and a tapestry needle, embroider a snowflake (or whatever festive shape you like) on the right side of both Baubles.

The shape I’ve embroidered is shown below, along with the two embroidered Baubles.

Bauble Christmas Ornament Assembly Instructions

Hold the two Baubles together so the sides line up and the right sides of both face outwards.

Now we’re going to crochet around the sides of both Baubles to join them together. St count doesn’t matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram on in the image below if needed.

Insert crochet hook into the st on the top left corner of the white section. Your crochet hook should be inserted into a st in the same place of both Baubles as shown in the image below. This is how we will join the Baubles together (by crocheting along the sides of both pieces).

Attach Colour C Yarn (Gold) to this st.

sc around sides of Baubles to join them together. 3 sc in the two corner sts (see diagram). Stuff Bauble when you’ve reached half way, and continue to stuff as you crochet.

*When you complete the last 3 sc in the right hand corner of the white piece (see end point of assembly diagram), 1 sc in middle st, ch 20, sc in same middle st, sl st to 1st sc where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).

Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.

Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing. Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.

Weave any remaining yarn tails into Bauble to hide.

Congratulations, you’ve finished!
