My friend asked me to make a crochet golf club cover for her husband that looks like their adorable dog called Gary. Well, this was a challenge I just couldn’t resist!
Gary is such a handsome chap, and I have to admit the fear was real about doing him justice! Here he is below.

Since a golf club cover requires a very specific shape, and while I’ve been crocheting for a while, I didn’t feel too confident just crocheting a golf club cover from scratch, I searched for existing patterns online first. Then I came across this brilliant crochet pattern book by Linda Wright called, Amigurumi Golf Club Covers: 25 Crochet Patterns for Animal Golf Club Covers. I seriously have no self control, and bought it from Amazon immediately. Click here to check it out.

I found the pattern for a Bull Dog with a slightly similar shape to Gary in the book, so I ran with it. I decided to adapt the pattern slightly to turn this into a ‘Gary crochet golf club cover’.

I made the ears longer, the mouth larger, and adapted the white stripe on top to make it more Gary-like. I also used very different colours too! Here’s what happened.

The yarn I used was also different from my normal go-to cotton yarn. After a lot of research about what kind of yarn would be good to use outdoors and in wet weather (it rains a lot where I live in Scotland), I opted for an acrylic yarn. I normally don’t enjoy using acrylic yarn at all, but I ordered this yarn by Schachenmayr called Soft & Easy and loved it! It sure was so soft and easy to use! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Here are the particular colours I used:
Overall, this was a really fun yet challenging crochet project! It would’ve been easier just to follow the pattern, but I really wanted to try and make this dog look like Gary. I think I got close. Here are a few more photos just to show off.

Until next time, happy crocheting,
