2024 seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye, but I still managed to release an equivalent of one free crochet pattern per month in 2024. A feat I’m proud of, but look forward to beating in 2025.
At the start of 2024 I was quite productive crochet-wise, however the end half of the year seemed full of distractions. You see, from July 2024, I was preparing myself for a house move. My partner and I had to move out of our rented flat as the owners wanted to sell, so we went on a house hunting mission that resulted in the purchase of our first home together.
It was an exciting, nerve-wrecking experience full of uncertainty with many ups and downs. It was quite a roller-coaster ride. Thankfully, I can now say that we are in our new home (as of early December 2024) and are loving it – it was such a great decision and totally worth it!
The point of me telling you all of this is to explain why my crochet productivity took a hit towards the end of 2024. My mind was definitely elsewhere. Even so, I’m very proud of the crochet patterns I did manage to create and share.
Let’s go through all 12 free crochet patterns starting from January 2024. I hope you like them, and remember they’re still all available on my blog if you fancy adding any to your to-make list in 2025.
January Free Crochet Patterns 2024
In January 2024, the focus was on releasing a quick and fun make that worked with some of my other patterns. One of the crochet collections I’ve been working on over the past few years is an amigurumi fruit collection, so January saw me release another free fruit crochet pattern.
1. Lush Lime free crochet pattern
The Lush Lime is a fun and quick free fruit crochet pattern that I created using a combination of my other fruit patterns as a base. By combining the body of the Luscious Lemon with the stem and leaf from the Appetising Apple, the Lush Lime was born!
February 2024 Crochet Patterns
One of my crochet goals in 2024 was to design more ‘celebration’ patterns. So, while it was later than the official celebration, my next pattern was relevant for the entire year we were all in. If you haven’t guessed, I decided to design a free dragon crochet pattern to celebrate the Year of the Dragon for Chinese New Year.
2. Dante the Dragon free amigurumi pattern
I was genuinely so thrilled with how Dante the Dragon, my free amigurumi pattern, turned out! He is on the smaller side of most amigurumi I’ve designed, but he isn’t too small to cuddle (especially for those with little hands).
March Free Crochet Patterns 2024
For anyone who has been following my crochet journey and blog for the past few years, you can probably guess what was coming in March 2024. In 2022, I designed my first Eggy collection – the Eggy Paw Pals – a group of Egg-shaped amigurumi animals designed for Easter. Since these egg-shaped amigurumi were so much fun to make and design, I’ve been carrying on this tradition ever since. In 2023, I released a collection of Eggy Farm Friends and in 2024 I released another new collection, the Eggy Mythical Mates. However, there were only two in this collection for 2024 and I also tried out a new DK chenille yarn – Rico Ricorumi Nilli Nilli.
3. Percival the Phoenix
This little egg-shaped amigurumi phoenix makes me so happy. While this was a challenging amigurumi to design, the result was so worth it and the pattern is actually quite simple to follow.
4. Freya the Unicorn
For some reason, I decided to crochet this mini amigurumi unicorn with super tight tension, so she turned out looking quite a bit smaller than Percival. She is a little cutie however, and my crochet pattern testers did a great job ensuring the pattern worked it’s magic.
April 2024 Crochet Patterns
In April 2024, I went back to basics by adding to my crocheted fruit collection.
5. Glorious Grapefruit free crochet pattern
The Glorious Grapefruit free crochet pattern was another quick and fun design. I used the base of my Optimal Orange crochet pattern to help me design this one. This is a great trick for pattern designers that you may start to notice more if you look at the shapes of designs closely – we (crochet designers) will often design one pattern and then alter it to make new designs.
May 2024
In May 2024, it was time for me to adapt another crochet pattern I created in a previous year. In 2023, I designed an adorable amigurumi monkey called Milo for a campaign I did with Hobbii Yarn. This year however, I turned this monkey into an adorable cuddly comforter.
6. Millie the Monkey Lovey free crochet pattern
Millie the Monkey Lovey ended up being the most popular pattern I published in 2024. While it is a free crochet pattern, it’s the first pattern I’ve ever designed where the paid PDF version of the pattern has started to sell immediately (this is rare for me – usually it takes time). But when looking at the result of this monkey lovey, I think you can see why – Millie is adorable. I also don’t actually have my original make of this lovey anymore as I gifted her to a friend’s newborn. So I expect to be crocheting another in 2025 – I do love a lovey!
June 2024 Crochet Patterns
When the summer of 2024 in the UK arrived, I went back to my roots and designed another fruit pattern (although the classification of this food can often bring up some controversial opinions).
7. Tender Tomato free crochet pattern
The Tender Tomato is a super quick and easy crochet project. Plus, I think the result looks pretty close to a real tomato, which is always the goal when it comes to my amigurumi fruit designs.
July 2024
July was the one month where I didn’t release a free crochet pattern. Just before July I had moved my entire blog/website from Squarespace to WordPress by myself. I had no outsourced help and somehow managed to keep my website alive and kicking. July 2024 was also the month my partner and I found out we had to find somewhere else to live – so things were a little up in the air, as you can imagine.
August 2024 Crochet Patterns
Come the beginning of August 2024 and a new free cuddly crochet pattern was released. I really fancied crocheting a project with Chenille yarn because the result is just so squishy and cute. But to make my monthly crochet pattern release goal, I took inspiration from all the fruit patterns I’d made earlier in the year and did another adaptation but this time of an Australian Amigurumi.
8. Pluto the Platypus free crochet pattern
Pluto the Platypus’ free crochet pattern was designed using the base pattern of Phyllis the Platypus. Phyllis was a small amigurumi made with cotton yarn. The free crochet pattern for Phyllis was also an intermediate level as there are quite a few fiddly sections that required a bit more crochet experience. Because I love this Aussie animal pattern, I wanted to make it more accessible. So I adapted the pattern to make it an easy level pattern and used Chenille yarn so this cutie came out as cuddly as can be.
September 2024 Crochet Patterns
In September 2024, I followed suit by transforming another intermediate Aussie Amigurumi into an easy level free crochet pattern.
9. Kim the Koala
Kim the Koala was designed using my original Kira the Koala intermediate crochet pattern. This one, like Pluto, was made to be a quick and easy pattern perfect for beginners and less experienced crocheters. It’s also great for anyone looking for a cute and quick crochet project.
October 2024 Crochet Patterns
October 2024 had me thinking about Halloween and I decided to go down the decoration path like I did in 2023 with Gwin the Ghost decoration.
10. Francis the Monster Decoration
This was my take on a crocheted hanging Frankenstein decoration for Halloween. This one was a lot of fun to make and also works up quite quickly. It’s primarily made by crocheting back and forth – you make a front and back piece, then crochet around the outside to join them together while adding a wee bit of stuffing in the middle.
November 2024 Crochet Patterns
I love November – it’s my birthday month and we’re gearing up for the Christmas holidays. As such, I was thinking cuddly, wintery and cute, which resulted in me returning to crochet designing another lovey. It also helps when you have quite a few friends due their first babies – loveys are the best baby gifts!
11. Elsie the Elephant Lovey free crochet pattern
Elsie the Elephant Lovey’s free crochet pattern is an intermediate level pattern that uses worsted weight cotton yarn. I was so in love with the result, but it hasn’t been anywhere near as popular as Millie the Monkey Lovey’s pattern. I’m a huge elephant fan (with their trunks up for luck!), but maybe monkey’s are more popular? Would love any thoughts on this! It could have also been the time of year it this free pattern was released… I know people start to get quite busy in November for the winter season and Christmas crocheting becomes a big priority.
December 2024 Crochet Patterns
The Christmas season is always bombarded with new crochet patterns and I normally jump right on board – I love Christmas and Christmas crocheting! December 2024 was the month that I was moving house, so I couldn’t do anywhere near as much as I would’ve liked. I did however manage to release one cute Christmas crochet pattern that I was very proud of.
12. Gerry the Gingerbread Man free crochet pattern
This adorable gingerbread amigurumi free crochet pattern comes with his own little top hat with holly detail, as well as a cosy scarf to keep him warm for the winter weather. The head, body, and legs of little Gerry the Gingerbread Man are also all worked in one – meaning there’s less sewing, always a win!
That brings me to the end of my free crochet pattern 2024 roundup. If you’ve been with me on this crochet journey for a while, thank you so much for hanging around. And if you’re brand new to my blog and my free crochet content, I hope you find something here that encourages and motivates you on your own crochet journey.
As always, feedback and suggestions are always welcomed! If there are any crochet patterns you love on this list, aren’t your thing, or you have ideas for future crochet patterns you’d like me to design – let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you!
Until next time, Happy New Year and I wish you a 2025 filled with happiness, laughter, good health, and lots of crochet!
Happy crocheting,
Cilla xx
