The free crochet pattern for this Bell Christmas Ornament is ideal for the festive season.

The forth of twelve crochet patterns to be released as part of the Crochet Crew’s Countdown to Christmas is here! You can stay in the loop with all twelve Christmas ornament crochet patterns by following along with the fun here.

This crochet pattern is slightly more challenge than the three patterns before it because it does require a magic circle (aka magic loop) as well as crocheting back and forth in rows. But the good news is that this two techniques is the most challenging part of this pattern and overall, it is still easy and quick to make.

If you do end up crocheting this Bell Christmas tree decoration, I’d love to see photos of your creations! You can share your creations with me by posting a photo to social media, using the hashtag #ChristmasWithCillaCrochets, and by tagging me @cillacrochets.

As you crochet, I’m here to help! If you have any questions at all while crocheting this bell, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via Facebook, Instagram, or by email. I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Top Tips & Additional Information

  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
  • Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
  • Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

Bell Ornament Assembly Instructions

Using Colour A Yarn (Blue), now we’ll sew the Bell Clappers to the Bells.

Starting with Bell 1 & Clapper 1, line up 3 sts of the Bell Clapper with 3 sts on the starting ch of the Bell. Bell Clapper 1 sits against the 9th, 10th & 11th ch of the Bell. Using the yarn tail from the Bell Clapper, sew the 3 sts on both pieces together.

Now we’ll do the same for Bell 2 & Bell Clapper 2. This time turn the Bell and Bell Clapper the other way around (so the right side is facing away from you). Using the yarn tail from the Bell Clapper, sew 3 sts of the Clapper to the 9th, 10th & 11th starting ch of the Bell. See the image showing Bell & Clapper 1 complete, and Bell & Clapper 2 being sewn.

Sew in remaining yarn tails.

Line up the two Bells with the right sides facing outwards.

Now we’re going to crochet around the sides of both Bells to join them together. St count doesn’t matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram in the image below.

Insert crochet hook into the st just below the point on both Bells. Your hook should go through stitches in both Bell pieces so they can be joined together. Attach Colour B Yarn (Gold) to this st as shown in image below.

sc around sides of Bells to join them together. 3 sc in each corner st. Stuff bell when you reach end point shown in diagram. Continue to stuff as you crochet the sides.

*When you reach the st just before the tip of the bells (see end point of assembly diagram), 1 sc in top st of bells, ch 20, sc in same st at top of bells, sl st to 1st st where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).

Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.

Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing.

Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.

Weave any remaining yarn tails into bell to hide.

Congratulations, you’ve finished!
