The free crochet pattern for this Candle Christmas Decoration is super easy and quick to make.
This is the third of twelve crochet patterns to be released to kick-off the Crochet Crew’s Countdown to Christmas. You can stay in the loop with all twelve Christmas ornament crochet patterns by following along with the fun here.
This crochet pattern is definitely the quickest to crochet out of all the Christmas tree decorations I’ve designed this year. While the pattern uses three yarn colours, it is a minimal amount (yarn scraps would be a great option!). This is also an easy crochet pattern written in English in US terms.
If you do end up crocheting this Candle Christmas Decoration, I’d love to see photos of your creations! You can share your creations with me by posting a photo to social media, using the hashtag #ChristmasWithCillaCrochets, and by tagging me @cillacrochets.

Crochet Pattern Abbreviations
This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
R# – Row/round number

Top Tips & Additional Information
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
- Working in rows: This pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches.
- Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.
- Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.
The Candle Christmas Decoration Crochet Pattern
Candle (Make 2)
Using Colour A Yarn (Blue).
This piece is worked flat by crocheting back and forth in rows. We start from the bottom of the candle stick and work our way up.
Please note: Turning chs are not counted in the total stitch count.
Start: Ch 5
R1: Start in 2nd ch from hook, 4 sc, ch 1, turn (4)
R2 – 21: 4 sc, ch 1, turn (4) – 20 rows
R22: 4 sc (4)
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Now we’ll start crocheting the flame of the candle.
Attach Colour B Yarn (Berry) to 2nd sc in R22 as shown in the image below.
R23: 2 sc, stop crocheting here leaving 1 unworked st, ch 1, turn (2)
Now we’ll just work into the 2 sc sts we crocheted in R23.
R24: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2)
R25: [inc] x 2, ch 1, turn (4)
R26 – 27: 4 sc, ch 1, turn (4) – 2 rows
R28: [dec] x 2, ch 1, turn (2)
R29: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2)
R30: dec, ch 1, turn (1)
R31: 1 sc (1)
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Repeat all steps to make second candle. Weave in all yarn ends of both candles. See completed candles in image below.
Candle Christmas Decoration Assembly Instructions
Hold the two candles so they are facing each other and all sides are lined up.
Now we’re going to crochet around all sides of both candles to join them together. St count doesn’t matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram shown in the image below.
Insert crochet hook into a st on the left side of the tip of the candle at the top (see image below) and attach Colour C Yarn (Gold).
sc around sides of candles to join them together. Use 3 sc in each corner st. Stuff candle once you reach half way around, and continue to stuff until you reach the end.
*When you reach one st away from the tip of the candle (see end point in diagram above), 1 sc in the top sc, ch 20, sc in same sc, sl st to 1st st where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).
Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.
Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4″ for sewing.
Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.
Sew in all yarn tails into the candles to hide.
Congratulations, you’ve finished!
